Why This Site Exists
Upshur land research touches offices with different jobs. The County Clerk keeps the grantor-grantee index and recorded deeds; the Assessor connects owners, legal descriptions, values, and parcel identifiers; and the sheriff or tax office handles bills and delinquency. MapWV adds the mapped parcel layer. The Clerk's counter and assessor's office sit near each other on West Main in Buckhannon, while public web access is not equal across systems. A stable public deed-index URL was not verified, so some record requests begin with the parcel card and continue in person or by writing.
What You Will Find Here
- Pages by record type: property search, deed records, property tax records, and parcel maps
- Local custodians: Upshur County Clerk, Upshur County Assessor, county tax offices, and the West Virginia GIS clearinghouse
- Search methods: connect an address to a parcel, trace a grantor-grantee chain, and distinguish assessment value from a tax bill
- Access rules: West Virginia FOIA, statutory recording fees, and ways to request years or documents not available online
What We Cannot Do
This is a private reference service, not an office of Upshur County, West Virginia, a court, a records custodian, or a municipal department. Its limits are practical as well as legal:
- We cannot pull, certify, or change any record on your behalf
- We cannot perform a title search or guarantee clear ownership
- We cannot appraise a property or set its assessed value
- We cannot give legal advice about a deed, a boundary, or a tax dispute
- We cannot warrant that every coverage year, portal link, or office procedure remains current
The records custodian alone can certify or correct its files. A title company or licensed surveyor must resolve title or boundary questions. Public-record material here is not a consumer report and cannot be used for an FCRA-regulated decision.
